Many people do not realise that a mobile star screening bucket operates under completely different conditions from a stationary star screening installation.

A mobile screening bucket places different demands than a stationary screening installation
In a stationary installation, the material is usually fed in a controlled manner. The stars process a relatively thin layer of material with a maximum particle size of approximately 10 to 150 mm. As a result, the load on the shafts, bearings and screening discs remains relatively constant and predictable.
A screening bucket works in a completely different way.
In a single movement, an operator scoops up a full bucket of soil. In addition to sand and soil, large stones, tree roots, rubble, concrete fragments and other materials can also enter the bucket. In practice, material pieces measuring up to 1.5 metres are encountered regularly. All of this weight is applied to the shafts, bearings and screening discs at once.
That is precisely why MGM Power did not develop its star screening bucket from the concept of a stationary installation, but specifically for the demanding realities of earthmoving, recycling and demolition. Our machines are designed to absorb these high peak loads reliably, day in and day out.
Why MGM chooses a robust construction
The choice of Hardox screening discs is not an isolated decision. It is part of a complete design philosophy.
Where some systems use relatively light shafts and structures, MGM Power deliberately chooses a robust construction. The complete drive system has been developed to absorb the heavy loads generated by a mobile screening bucket.
This results in a machine that not only lasts longer, but also continues to perform reliably under demanding conditions.
This robust construction forms the basis of every MGM star screening bucket.
Designed to use the full bucket capacity
A screening bucket must be able to work efficiently. Every loading cycle costs time and fuel.
With systems using polyurethane (plastic) screening discs, operators are often advised to load material carefully and not fill the bucket completely. This limits high peak loads on the shafts and plastic stars.
At MGM Power, we did not want to accept this limitation.
Our star screening buckets are designed to make optimal use of the full bucket capacity. Thanks to the combination of Hardox screening discs, robust shafts, heavy-duty bearings and a strong drive system, the machine can be used as a professional operator expects: efficiently, powerfully and without having to constantly take the machine’s load into account.
This means more production per loading cycle, fewer unnecessary actions and higher capacity throughout the working day.
Developed for real-world conditions
A construction, demolition or work site is not a controlled factory environment.
During screening, materials that do not belong in the soil stream are regularly encountered, such as:
- reinforcing steel;
- binding wire;
- steel cables;
- rope;
- root barrier fabric;
- tree roots;
- branches and wood.
These materials can wrap around the shafts or screening discs and place additional load on the complete drive system.
That is why MGM Power does not develop its machines for ideal conditions, but specifically for real-world use. The robust Hardox screening discs are better able to withstand abrasive and cutting loads and continue to function reliably under demanding conditions. Combined with the cleaning combs, this prevents these materials from causing problems for MGM Power machines.

Hardox is developed for extreme wear
Hardox is not a standard structural steel. It has been specifically developed for applications involving extreme daily wear.
That is why Hardox is used worldwide in applications including:
- mining machinery;
- excavator buckets;
- dumpers;
- crushing installations;
- recycling machines;
- wear plates;
- material handling machines.
When these industries rely on Hardox for their most heavily loaded components, it is a logical choice for MGM Power to use the same material in professional star screening buckets.
Quick Change Rotor System: a sustainable approach to maintenance
With many star screening systems, wear on the stars eventually means that complete rotors need to be replaced or extensively overhauled.
MGM Power has developed a different solution.
With the Quick Change Rotor System, complete rotor configurations can be changed quickly or adapted to a different application. This means that the complete machine does not need to be replaced when the work changes or when maintenance is required.
This provides benefits such as:
- less downtime;
- lower maintenance costs;
- faster switching between applications;
- a longer machine service life;
- greater machine availability.
This also aligns with our vision of developing machines with the lowest possible costs over their entire service life.

A deliberate choice for people and the environment
Our vision extends beyond performance and service life alone.
We are convinced that a screening bucket is intended to separate materials, not to add plastic to the material stream.
Polyurethane is a plastic. During the screening process, plastic screening discs wear, which can cause small plastic particles to enter the processed material stream. Because soil, compost and recycled materials are often reused, we believe the impact of wear on these material streams should also be taken into account.
That is why MGM Power deliberately chooses Hardox screening discs. Not only because of their significantly longer service life and lower maintenance costs, but also because we believe that sustainable machines begin with responsible material choices.
Our conviction
At MGM Power, we do not build machines just for today.
We build machines that will still be used reliably every day ten years from now.
That is why we do not choose the cheapest components, but the best long-term solution.
We believe that quality begins with the choices a manufacturer makes. Every design decision, every material and every detail contributes to the machine’s performance and to the impact it has on the environment.
We believe that a screening bucket is intended to separate materials, not to add plastic to the material stream.
That is why MGM Power deliberately chooses Hardox screening discs, a robust construction and durable technology. Not because it is the cheapest solution, but because we are convinced that it is the best choice for the professional user and for the future.
