Removing plastic from farm and leaf compost with the MGM GS50-12

When processing farm and leaf compost, the quality of the final product is becoming increasingly important. A common challenge is removing plastic, film and other coarse contaminants without damaging the structure of the compost.

During a practical project, the MGM GS50-12 grid screening bucket, equipped with a 12 mm screen deck, was mounted on a wheeled excavator to remove these contaminants from the material efficiently.

A high-quality final product

The aim of this project was to produce a cleaner compost product of a higher quality. By carefully screening the material, coarse contaminants such as plastic, film, branches and other unwanted components are effectively separated.

This leaves behind a more homogeneous and cleaner compost product that is better suited for further use.

Better results than with a trommel screen

The customer previously used a rented trailer-mounted trommel screen. During this practical test, however, the MGM GS50-12 delivered a clearly superior final result.

Thanks to the active screening movement, the material is loosened and separated efficiently. This makes it easier to remove contaminants such as plastic from the compost. The result was a visibly cleaner final product and higher compost quality than with the previously used trommel screen.

Flexible and efficient operation

Because the GS50-12 is mounted directly on the wheeled excavator, the material can be picked up, screened and processed at any required location.

No additional machines or conveyor belts are needed. This allows for more efficient and flexible operation while keeping the worksite organised.
